Welcome to the Blog!

Hi, I'm Jocelyn!

I'm a Christian wife and mom living in Knoxville, TN. I met my husband at Freed-Hardeman University, and this June, we’ll be celebrating our 9th wedding anniversary! Our daughter is almost 9 months old and we are having the best time with her!

I started Families of Faith in January 2022. After a miscarriage the previous October, I needed something meaningful to do with my talents, and God has done so much through me since then! It all began with a simple, printable Bible study “kit” about the Hebrews 11 Hall of Faith. Since then, I’ve created over 30 Bible study kits, four Vacation Bible School themes, bulletin board kits, Bible songs for kids, and many other resources for families and churches!

In my free time, you’ll find me baking a loaf of sourdough bread, listening to podcasts or audiobooks, catching up on our latest TV show, working on a craft project, or going for a hike or a walk around the neighborhood. Right now, I’m sewing our daughter a fabric Easter basket, and my husband and I are watching the current season of Survivor!

Why Did I Decide to Start a Blog?

After our daughter was born, I knew that I would want to share about our own family Bible time and was thinking about the best way to do so. I have planned out in my head how I will share a weekly “What Did We Study Last Week?” type of post to hopefully help others come up with ideas for their own family Bible time. Recently—and with the help of my mom, who I constantly bounce ideas off of—I came up with even more topics to write about and decided to get started with a blog! I also wanted a way to fill the gaps in my content since I’m not able to keep up the same Bible study kit pace since having a baby.

Here are some of the ideas I’ll be sharing with this blog:

  • Book Reviews: I love children's books, especially children's books that teach biblical truths. There are so many available, but I don't always know how closely they stick to the Bible. I'm sure other parents have the same concerns, so I plan to review books we already use and purchase new ones to check out. I'll share my thoughts with you so that you can make an informed decision for your family.
  • Vacation Bible School Launches: Whenever a new VBS is released, there is so much that I want to share, but social media isn't always the best place for this. Now, I'll be able to write about the inspiration for the theme, how I chose the lessons, and all the behind-the-scene details that go into creating a VBS curriculum from scratch! I'll also be able to share all the pictures sent in by congregations from this year's VBS all in one place.
  • Bible Study Kit Launches: Just like with VBS, when a new Bible study kit comes out, I will be able to share a deeper look into the kit and answer some questions about the materials.
  • Guest Bloggers: This is something I'm very excited about! I plan to invite you—the readers—to share how you use Families of Faith materials in your home or Bible class. I will give you a list of questions guide your writing, and once you've submitted your post, I'll share your thoughts to help and inspire other parents and Bible class teachers. I hope this will be encouraging for all of us to see Christians incorporating the Bible into their daily routine!

I'm excited to start this blogging journey and share more ways to help families grow in their faith! Whether you're looking for Bible study ideas, book recommendations, or encouragement in teaching your children, I hope this blog will be another helpful resource for you.

Thanks for being here! If there's a topic you're interested in or if you'd like to be a guest blogger, let me know in the comments!
