Resources for Christian Parents

If you're a Christian parent who wants to teach your children about God, but you're not quite sure where to start or whether you're doing it "right," you're in the right place.

The Responsibility of Christian Parents

As a Christian parent, you know that your biggest responsibility is to teach your children about God. As a disciple of Jesus, He should be the most important part of your life, and your love for Him should naturally flow into every part of your life, especially your relationship with your children.

Obstacles Facing Christian Parents

Christian parents still have to juggle the various aspects of life in addition to our spiritual responsibilities to our families.

We have to shop for groceries, cook food, budget and pay bills, do laundry, mow the grass, take the kids to and from school and activities or even take care of homeschooling.

There is so much that needs to be done every day—so much that makes us busy.

I’m currently in the parenting phase where it takes time to cook the meal, and then our daughter has to eat her food, and then it takes so much time to clean up the food that’s on the floor, on her high chair, in her hair, and all over her face and body. And I almost forgot about cleaning up all the toys (random kitchen utensils and objects) that she played with while I was cooking! Right now, mealtimes take up so much time, and on top of all the other chores and tasks it seems like there’s just not enough hours in the day.

Christian parents who want to teach their children about God are often facing an uphill battle. Physical things naturally take up so much of our time and attention.

Common Questions Surrounding Family Bible Time

I've often heard from parents who want to start a Bible study routine in their home, but have so many questions and doubts. Questions like:

  • Where do we start when it comes to teaching our children about God?
  • Do we just read the Bible together?
  • Do I read it aloud or retell a Bible story from my own memory?
  • Do I have to write a lesson plan?
  • Spend hours on the Internet finding activities to do?
  • How do I make it work when my kids are different ages?
  • Will our children find it boring? Will it be awkward?
  • How much time should we even spend?
  • How often should we sit down together?

If you've asked yourself any of these questions, you're not alone!

What Christian Parents Need

Christian parents need Bible materials that are:

Time-Saving

Easy to Use

Engaging

Age-Appropriate

Affordable

Printable Bible Study Kits that include Bible lessons, a memory verse, crafts, games, activities, worksheets, coloring pages, and Scripture writing

Free sticker charts for learning foundational Bible facts

But even with the right resources, how do these materials fit into our busy lives?

Making Bible Time Work for Your Family

Family Bible time doesn't have to be formal, structured, or overly serious to be meaningful. It's not about being perfect or polished. The most successful daily family Bible time is:

Intentional—You’re doing it on purpose, even if it’s simple, with no materials or study aids.

Consistent—You show up regularly, even when time is short or life is messy.

Adaptable—You stay flexible, changing the plan as needed, because every day looks a little different.

The Power of Consistency

In a lesson at Polishing the Pulpit in Branson, MO, Dr. Justin Rogers said that the most important habit—and most difficult—we need when it comes to Bible study is consistency.

"Just do something every day. Be consistent."

And this is so true! We can see the importance of consistency even in our physical lives. Exercise is one of the most often-used examples. If we just did something every day—not always a 30-minute workout, but something—imagine how much of a difference that would make to our overall health!

The same is true with our personal Bible study and prayer life, but especially our family Bible time. Imagine the life-long impact this will have on your children. I think many Christians who were raised by Christian parents grew up in a home where God was a priority, but not necessarily a part of the daily routine

Think about the kind of adults you want your children to be and start helping them form habits that will benefit them for the rest of their lives.

Intentional and consistent time spent together each day is the first step to teaching your children about God.

Just Do Something Every Day

You've committed to doing something—anything—every single day.

Themed nights can help you establish a consistent routine. You could try going through a family Bible lesson on Mondays, or having a prayer night on Fridays.

Or you could do a mix of activities, keeping the same schedule each night. Start out by letting one child choose a song to sing, then study a new family Bible lesson or review a recent one, then do a craft or play a game, and end with a prayer.

There’s no right or wrong way to do family Bible time. And remember, even if your schedule is hectic or you’re pressed for time, just do something every single day. Some days you will only have a few minutes while others you may be able to fit in thirty minutes! This is where it's important to be adaptable.

Now, you may decide not to study together on Sundays or on the night when you have a mid-week Bible study. These days are filled with spiritual nourishment, but talking together in the car to and from the church building can be a great way to keep the routine alive. Here are some questions you might ask:

  • Who did you learn about in Bible class?

  • What is one thing you learned about in Bible class?

  • What was your favorite song we sang today?

  • Who is someone we can pray for when we get home?

Incorporating spiritual discussion into every part of your day makes daily family Bible time a natural habit.

Conclusion

You don’t need a perfect plan or hours of free time to teach your children about God. What you need is a heart that wants to put Him first, and a willingness to show up every day.

Family Bible time doesn’t have to be complicated. When it’s intentional, consistent, and adaptable, it becomes part of your family’s rhythm, woven into the fabric of everyday life.
